Last Rites Held for Mrs. J. H. Ambrose

Funeral services were held August 8 at the Amboy Baptist Church for Mrs. J. H. Ambrose.

Mrs. Ambrose died August 7 (***death certificate reports August 11, 1954--the date in the obituary is wrong)at the Turner County Hospital. she had been ill for the past year, and she suffered a second stroke a few days before her death. She was 73 years old. The Rev. Harvey Wages, pastor of Rebecca Baptist Church, officiated at the last rites. Pallbearers were Buck Durham, John Durham, Emory Ambrose, Alton Ambrose, Robert Winn, and Hilery Winn.

Mrs. Ambrose was one of her community's most beloved citizens and was well-known throughout Turner County. She was the devoted wife of J. H. Ambrose whom she married 51 years ago. Her husband preceded her in death May 24 of this year.

Mrs. Ambrose was a loyal member of the Amboy Baptist Church, and she contributed quietly and effectively to Christian ministry.

She is survived by a son, J. M. Ambrose of Gainesville, Florida; two daughters, Mrs. Wade Jackson and Mrs. Charlie Carlson of Amboy, a brother, G. T. Roberts of Amboy, a sister, Mrs. W. w. Dimsdale of Newnan, and several grandchildren.

Interment was at the Rainey Cemetery.

She married John Henry Ambrose on February 7, 1904, in Wilcox, Georgia. They had four children during their marriage: Alma Lee Ambrose (Haralson) 1910–2000, Thelma Louise Ambrose (Jackson) (Holloway) 1913–1994, John Melvin Ambrose 1916–1996, James "Jim" Ambrose 1917–?.

She died on August 11, 1954, in Turner, Georgia, at the age of 73, and was buried in the Rainey Cemetery in Turner County, Georgia.
