Franklin Garfield Axmear of Sigourney died Oct. 4 at Mercy hospital in Iowa City following a lengthy illness. He had been hospitalized three weeks.

He was born Jan. 15, 1903 northeast of Keswick, the son of George Washington and Rosazilla Lane Axmear. He graduated from What Cheer high school. He farmed 55 years near Thornburg and was a car salesman many years. He was a member of the Methodist church and a member of the Universal Lodge 242 AF&AM at What Cheer.

He married Zella Piersel Feb. 26, 1924 at Oskaloosa and they farmed near Keswick. She preceded him in death Apr. 8, 1979. He married Sylvia Morrow Sept 15, 1979 and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter Mrs. John (Roberta) Buhr, Clear Lake; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Dwight (Maxine) Loffler, Brighton and Mrs. Ward (Loretta) Fritchen, Ollie; three grandsons, Robert, Roy and Edgar Edmundson; three step grandchildren; five great grandsons; and four step-great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Judd of Sigourney.

Besides his first wife, Mr. Axmear was preceded in death by a great grandson, Ryan James Edmundson; a brother, L.V. Axmear of Keswick and sisters, Mrs. John (Lulu) Rah of Delta, Mrs. Glen (Gail) Yoakam of Webster, Mrs. Henry (Bertha) Faas of What Cheer, Mrs. Edgar (Neva) White of Long Beach, Calif., and Marie Annette Axmear who died in infancy.

Funeral services were Oct. 8 at Holm Funeral Home with the Rev. George Mullins, pastor of the Sigourney Christian church, officiating. Burial was in Garrett Cemetery, Delta.

Honorary casket bearers were Art McGimpsey, William John White, Dale Axmear, Sam Schmidt, William Bender and Joe Davidson.

Casket bearers were Robert F. Edmundson, Roy Edmundson, Edgar Edmundson, Arlen Fisher, Alleyn Fisher and Alan Axmear.

Holm Funeral Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
