Zack Dwayne Riley, Mountain Grove, Mo., departed this life on Wednesday, April 4, 2001, after a valiant 3-year battle with leukemia. Zack was born March 30, 1925, in Blanche, Mo., to the late Lando and Betty (Alsup) Riley. He left home at an early age to travel the country on his beloved Indian motorcycle. He joined the Army shortly after returning home to Mountain Grove and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1955. Upon his return home, he met and married Wilma Halliburton. They had three wonderful children together. They enjoyed vacationing together, especially camping when he showed them the beauty of the West that he had enjoyed in his youth. Zack moved his family to Iowa in 1966 where he worked for the former Dewey Portland Cement Company, presently the LaFarge Corp. He retired to Missouri in 1987. He enjoyed traveling out west, camping and fishing. He was a gifted storyteller of the old days. He brought much joy and laughter to his family and friends through the years. Memorials may be made to the Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department. Zack leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Wilma, Mountain Grove; daughters, Nancy Stout and her husband Dean, Drury, Mo., and Annabelle Kimes and her husband Dave, Buffalo; a son, Leo Dwayne Riley and wife, Sheila, Buffalo; a stepdaughter, Linda Loethen and husband James, Fort Myers, Fla.; his granddaughter, Catie Kimes; grandsons, Shane, Mike, Tim and Luke Riley and Travis, Josh and Trent Stout; step-grandchildren, J.D. and Angela Loethen; a great-granddaughter, Samantha Riley; and his aunt, Gert Hutchinson. Besides his parents, Zack was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Barker and Ima Henderson, and four brothers, Willard and Harold Riley and Dick "Leon" and Bus "Leo" Alsup. Although we mourn his passing, let us also celebrate his life.
