He was born April 7, 1930, in Keokuk, Iowa, the son of Junius A. and Marie A. Bocke Beger. He married Delores J. Solomon on June 4, 1960.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Jackie Cadagin and Elise Hines.
Mr. Beger was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked for the United States Postal Service for 30 years and worked part time at Hertz Rent-a-Car for 3 1/2 years.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church, where he was an usher for 20 years, and member of the Caregiver Group, AARP, former member of POLK of A and Prairie State Polish Club, a lifelong Cardinal fan and was also a member of the Parkinson's Support Group.
Surviving are his wife, Delores Beger of Springfield; a daughter, Cynthia A. Beger of Springfield; a son, Stephen (Jane) Beger of Springfield; four grandchildren, Allyson, Meredith, Austin and Cole; a brother-in-law, Jim Cadagin of Pekin; two aunts, Sr. Mary Elise OP of Chicago and Sr. Mary Annette OP of Springfield; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at Blessed Sacrament Church, with the Rev. David Hoefler officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Blessed Sacrament Building Fund or Parkinson's Foundation.
