Son of David and Ruth (Ford) Joy who settled in Rehouboth, Bristol Co. Massachusetts.

Farmer. Removed from Rehoboth, Mass., to Guilford, Vermont., about 1766. He served in the French and Indian War, and was at the taking of Fort Ticonderoga, 1775. Is said to have been "a platoon officer under Gen. Ruggles." Justice of the Peace (called "Squire Joy"). From "The Joy Family," New York, 1876.
[NOTE: Unfortunately, the book that was a source for his bio has a serious factual problem. The date for the service David Joy performed is incorrect--the campaign under Genl. Ruggles was in the French and Indian War, which had ended a long time before 1775. This statement is wrong: "and was at the taking of Fort Ticonderoga, 1775." The source biography had issues!--Kristen]
