Father Donovan grew up in St. Louis. He attended St. Andrews School and studied at Kenrick Seminary. He was ordained in 1942 and read his first Mass at St. Martin of Tours Church in Lemay.
Father Donovan served his first 10 years as a priest at churches in the St. Louis Archdiocese. His first assignment was at St. Joachim Church in Old Mines, Mo.
He then was affiliated with the Springfield-Cape Girardeau Diocese from its formation in the 1950s until his retirement about 10 years ago. He retired as pastor of St. Lawrence Parish in New Hamburg, Mo.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in Mehlville.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 4556 Telegraph Road in Oakville. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery.
Among the survivors are three sisters, Agnes Donovan and Margaret Fecher of Oakville, and Nathalie Marty of Lemay; and five brothers, John Donovan of Lemay, Joseph Donovan, Charles Donovan and Gregory Donovan, all of Oakville, and Thomas Donovan of Lemay.
