I'm trying to find more info on the Wakefields & found great-grandfather had 6(!) wives, 4 of whom were Native American.
My grandmother (his daughter), Susan/Susie Wakefield Snetsinger's mother, was full Chippewa whose name was Peen-Quay Auginosh and married to Joseph Watts Wakefield.
Peen-Quay was of the Sandy Lake Band of Chippewas of Sandy Lake MN, Aitken County.
Joseph Watts Wakefield was born 1835 in Cherryfield Maine & went west as a young man, settling in MN living in Mahnomen & Grand Rapids MN area and died while living in Little Falls MN.
Oh yes, Joseph Watts Wakefield was also in the lumber business
