SOUTHBURY--Memorial funeral services for Joseph W. Condie, 70, of 1014 B Heritage Village, will be held at a date to be announced.
Burial will be private. There are no calling hours.
Mr. Condie, formerly of Milford was a noted flier, yachtsman and inventor. He died Wednesday at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness.
Mr. Condie was born July 10, 1913 in Peterson, N. J., son of the late Walter and Mary (Bustard) Condie. He was a former member of the Miamogue Yacht Club and twice won the coveted Bishop Race Cup.
In 1937, Mr. Condie was employed by Remington Rand of Bridgeport where he received a patent on an electric shaver utilizing the principle of alternating current for oscillation. During World War II he received his private license and became commanding officer of the Bridgeport Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol and held the position of communication supervisor for Chance Vought in Stratford.
In 1958, he began his 12-year association with AVCO-Lycoming Division of United Technologies in Stratford. He was the general supervisor of the Metrology Laboratory and liaison between Lycoming and the National Bureau of Standards in Washington D. C., Boulder, Colorado and Gaithersburg, Maryland.
Mr. Condie was an amateur radio operator since 1942 and was instrumental in forming the Radio and Electronics Club of Heritage Village. In 1973 he was engaged by Dual-Lite of Newtown to set up a factory and train key personnel in the manufacture of emergency lighting equipment in Puerto Rico. In 1979, Mr. Condie became the senior technician for the TV-FM system in Heritage Village and he held this position until the time of his death.
He leaves his wife, Loretta A. (Mundy) Condie; one brother, Robert Condie of Fairfield; two sisters, Mrs. Julius Galbicsek of Fairfield and Mrs. Louis Kundrath of Chandler, Arizona and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions many be made to the Heritage Village Ambulance Association. The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, Main Street, is in charge of arrangements.

Lee Bunting, president of the electronic firm, in announcing the appointment, said Mr. Condie will assume duties of director of quality control, setting lip and maintaining a completely modern, efficient new quality control system.
Mr. Condie formerly was employed as a general supervisor
of the metrology laboratory in the Avco Lycoming division
Stratford, 13 years, a position which involved maximum quality control maintenance.
He is affiliated with the American Society for Quality Control the Instrument Society of America Aerospace Industries Association, the National Conference of
Standards Laboratories and the National Bureau of Standards.
Mr. Bunting said. Mr. Condie's appointment and the development of a greatly enlarged quality control department has been necessitated by firm's growth and the
expansion of its facilities the past two years.
The firm began operations in the early 1960s in a building at 31 Read Street, and since has erected a new building at 46 Beatrice Street, and more recently opened new offices for accounting and servicing at 1483 Stratford Avenue.
Mr. Condie will work in the Beatrice street plant.
