Because Matilda was not present in the Uriah Shockley household of 1870, it is believed that she died prior to the 6 August 1870 date on that census. Her parents were buried in Barbarick-Goers Cemetery: her mother in 1860 and her father in 1863. Her husband was buried there in 1870. She must rest there, also.
***There was a mention of another daughter, Rutha Shockley, whose name appears in a 1987 letter between Cecil Shockley and Charles Shepperd. Charles was a direct descendant of Uriah and first wife, Rebecca, whereas Cecil Shockley was a direct descendant of Uriah and second wife, Mathilda.
In this letter, Cecil informs Charles that Rutha S. Shockley's name only appears one time as a mention in a will referencing the estate of Isaiah Shockley in 1867. If Rutha S. Shockley is Uriah and Mathilda's daughter, then we will have the names of all the 12 children.***
