Alise Ratcliffe Hellems, 87, of Unionville, died at her residence on Thursday, February 4, 2010.

She was born on February 20, 1922, in Gordonsville, the daughter of the late William Ratcliffe and Catherine Cole Ratcliffe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Dovell Hellems; one sister, Nell R. Garrett; two brothers, Cecil Ratcliffe and Lee Ratcliffe.

She owned and operated Hellems Rentals and was a member of the Spotswood Baptist Church. She also attended Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Kay Hellems of Unionville and Linda Darlene Hellems Woody and her husband, the Reverend Roger Wood, of Unionville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, February 8, 2010, at the Preddy Funeral Home in Orange with interment to be held at Unionville Christian Church Cemetery in Unionville. The Reverend Jim Stone and Dr. Richard Goble officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the Preddy Funeral Home, 250 West Main Street, Orange.
