Obituary:
The subject of this notice, whose death ocurred at New Florence, Westmoreland County, yesterday, was born in East Wheatfield Township, Indiana County, about fifty-two years ago. He followed farming in his younger days, but at the outbreak of the war enlisted as a private in Company H, Twelfth Pennsylvania Reserve Volunteer Corps, under Captain A.J. Bolar, recently deceased. At the battle of Fredericksburg, Mr. Lawson was wounded in the left leg, necessitating amputation. At the time he was hit he was in the front of a charge, and there proved his bravery and gallantry. Being forced to retire from the Army, he came to Johnstown and was given the position of policeman and assistant baggagemaster at the P.R.R. passenger station, where he remained several years, going from here to Sang Hollow to take charge of the water station. The work was too hard for him in his crippled condition, and he moved to East Liberty and started a grocery store. After a few years there he gave up businss and settled at New Florence, where he had lived in comfort ever since upon a liberal pension allowed him by the Government. For several years he hd been in failing health. He was twice married. His second wife and two children by his first wife survive him. The deceased was a member of Post 253, G.A.R. of New Florence, and it will no doubt have charge of the funeral, which takes place to-morrow, the interment to be made at Armagh, in the Presbyterian burying-ground.
