Richard Sullivan Bentley, age 75, died Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1991, at a Houston, Texas hospital.
Born December 2, 1915, in St. George, Utah to William Oscar Bentley and Hettie Sullivan.
He married Noma Cox Dec. 1934; later solemnized in the St. George Temple.
Later divorced.
Married Mary Gossett Wilson December 1971.
Mr. Bentley retired after 35 years with the J.C. Penny Co.
He managed stores in Butte, Montana, Lewiston, Idaho, and Greeley, Colorado.
He had been a vice president of Mitchell Department Stores, A & A Trading Corp., owner of D & D Sample Outlet and franchise operator for A & W Stores in Dallas, Fort Worth.
He served as chairman of numerous charity fund-raising organizations, president of a Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, PTA, and was a member of the Northeast Lion's Club and Diamond Oaks Country Club.
He was a member of the LDS Church, and served as a branch president and a bishop two times, and on four High Councils.
Served as a seminary teacher and in numerous other positions.
Survivors: Wife, Mary Bentley, of Fort Worth; five sons, Richard ''Rick'' S. Bentley, Jr., St. George; William W. Bentley, West Jordan; Gordon Rene Bentley, Las Vegas, Nevada; Jerre F. Bentley, Mesa, Ariz.; and Brandon Douglas Bentley, Fort Worth; daughter, Mrs. Ken (Darylene) Nickell, Pleasant Grove, Utah; two stepdaughters, Angela Wright, Monroe, Louisiana; Phyllis Cunningham, Fort Worth; two brothers, R. Wayne Bentley, Salt Lake City; Maxwell Bentley, St. George, Utah; three sisters, Miriam Milne, Salt Lake City; Maude Broadbent, Logan; Leah McLaughlin, St. George; 27 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jeniel Nickell.
The funeral was held at the Hurst LDS Ward, Hurst, Texas.
He was interred Jan. 5, 1991, at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Fort Worth, Tex.
