"LAMPASAS -- William Denton "Willie D." Bates, 89, of Lampasas died Wednesday, Aug. 1, at a Lampasas nursing home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Dodson Funeral Home in Lampasas.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.

Mr. Bates was born to John Newell and Emma (Bean) Bates in Lampasas. He attended school at Nix and Naruna. He married Allynn Bean on April 28, 1938. She preceded him in death on Oct. 25, 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an aircraft mechanic. He worked for the Texas Highway Department for several years before joining the Navy. He had also worked for the Mobile Ship Yard. He retired from the Glasstron Boat Company in Austin. He was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ in Lampasas.

Survivors are two sons, Harold D. Bates of Lampasas and Richard D. Bates of Jonestown, a sister, Emma Laura Garner of Lampasas; and five grandchildren"
