Born: May 28,1805 Mecklenburg Co. NC.
Died: Jan.9,1889 Haddon township,Sullivan Co. Indiana. They where united in marriage on Oct. 2,1823.
In 1839 with 5 of their 7 children born to them in North Carolina, picked up and came to Knox Co. Indiana from North Carolina. Requiring thirty days for the journey on horseback, with son James Jefferson Lowdermilk driving the wagon team. The family remained in Knox Co. until Oct. 1843 when they moved to Haddon township,Sullivan Co. Indiana.
With the outbreak of the Mexican War Solomon and son James Jefferson were among over 60 volunteers who enlisted from the area. The party leaving Carlisle, Indiana on June 15,1846. Company H. 2nd Indiana Infrantry. fought in many engagements during the war, most notably in the major battle, known as The Battle of Buena Vista on Feb.22, lasting until evening Feb.23,1847. Second Lt. Solomon Loudermilk and son James Jefferson Lowdermilk returned home in Haddon township on June 4,1847.
Solomon and Sarah continued on after the war farming their land while raising their children. Sons James J.,Pinkney C.,Joseph D.,William L., daughters Amanda A., Sarah C., and Martha A.
After Solomon's death in 1865 Sarah and daughter Martha moved to Carlisle to be near daughter Sarah C. and her husband Aaron Holder. By the year 1876, daughter Martha passed away and was intern in The Engle Cemetery along side 3 of sister Sarah Holder's children, Flora, Lizzie and Anna Holder. In 1889 Sarah Starns Loudermilk passed away, and was laid to rest beside daughter Martha Loudermilk. Aaron Holder passing in 1909 and Sarah C. his wife in 1911 all intern in The Engle Cemetery.
Solomon and Sarah's son Wiiliam Logan at18 yrs. had passed away on Nov. 13,1853 being laid to rest on the family farm along side his father, in what is now known as Lowdermilk Cemetery.
