Emaline was born 19~Sept~1827. She was the fifth of ten children. Jacob, the son of Frederick and Catherine Cogdill originally of North Carolina, served in the War of 1812 from Tennessee. After his honorable discharge in 1815 and receiving
some land warrants, he and Sarah and their children moved west. First to Clay County, Missouri in 1825, and then to Buchanan County Missouri, in 1828, where he was considered a most industrious and excellent farmer.They lived near Hallack.
They had 12 children together.
