Floyd Thomas Sheriff, 76, of 445 Bonita Drive, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at Palmetto Baptist Medical Center.

Born in Pickens County, son of the late Alpha Martin and Lena Pace Sheriff. Mr. Sheriff retired from I.W.E.R. Corporation, and was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189, Hejaz Shrine, member of Pickens Chapter No. 34, and Pickens Council No. 47, charter member and past secretary of Easley Commandery No. 21, York Rite. Mr. Sheriff was a member of the 16th Masonic District degree team, and Hejaz Past Masters degree team, where he served as secretary. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II as a combat medic with the 9th Infantry Division, and was recently awarded the Combat Medics Badge and the Bronze Star, in addition to other medals and awards previously won. Mr. Sheriff was a member of American Legion Post No. 52 and served in various duties.

He was an asset to his community and organizations to which he belonged. Floyd was an humble man and never sought praise nor thanks for his contributions to his fellow man.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Catherine Vaughn Sheriff, of the home; two sisters, Evelyn Arnold of Central, and Mildred Hinton of Wichita Falls, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Russell Elder and the Rev. W.D. James officiating. Burial will be at Graceland West Cemetery, Greenville.

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Honorary Escorts will be members of Bates Masonic Lodge No. 189.
