JEROME - LaVerna Holmes, 67, of Jerome, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 1991, at the Magic Valley Regional Medical Center of an extended illness.
She was born July 8, 1923, in Bellingham, Wash., the daughter of Henry A. and Minnie S. Franklin Rodig. She received her education in Buhl and married Harvey Holmes on Sept. 18, 1949, in Elko, Nev. They then traveled around the United States, Canada and Mexico. In 1963 they moved to Jerome and started a family business, L&H Mobile Butchering, Cutting and Wrapping, the first mobile butcher on the north side of the Snake River.
Holmes worked with the Boy Scouts as a den mother for many years and was a member of the LDS Church.
Surviving are her husband of Jerome; one son, John Alvin Holmes of Hailey; one daughter, Debby Anne Silvers of Jerome; two brothers, Bud Rodig of Washington and Sonny Rodig of Buhl; one sister Deloris Warntjes of Oregon; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. today at the Hove-Robertson Funeral Chapel in Jerome, with Bishop Stanley D. Lott officiating. Friends may call from 10:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Burial will follow at the Jerome Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
