John Lester and his sons, Samuel and Sigler H., were among th earliest settlers in the Douglas county area. Samuel entered his first land in Section l, Township 15, Range 7, in 1835. It is in this same section of land where the Lower Lester cemetery is located. Samuel, his wife and many of their family are buried there. The Lester's were forceful men about whom many legends were circulated. At one time, Samuel owned over 800 acres. "1884 Douglas County History." Samuel died in 1860.
