Mr. Brubaker was born Sep 20, 1906, in Mercersburg, Franklin County, PA, the son of Dr. Granville Moody Brubaker and Ida Marie Stoner Brubaker. He attended public schools in Mercersburg and Waynesboro, PA, and pursued electrical studies at Johns Hopkins and Rutgers Universities.
In June 1924, he was employed by the Northern Virginia Power Company (later Potomac Edison, now Allegheny Power). In 1937, he became the Power Company manager in Berryville, VA. In 1962, he became Southern Division Services Manager. He retired in July 1970.
On Jul 17, 1934, he married Agnes Josephine Preffitt, daughter of Bismarck Preffitt and Elma E. White Preffitt of Winchester. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary prior to Agnes' death in 1987.
Mr. Brubaker's avocations included music, genealogy, photography, cabinet-making, oil painting, and gardening.
He was the oldest living member of the Berryville Presbyterian Church, having joined in 1939. He was elected an Elder of the Church and sang in its choir for many years.
He belonged to the Clarke County Chamber of Commerce (serving a term as President), the Izaak Walton League, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Clarke County Lions Club, the Potomac Edison Quarter Century Club (two terms as President), the Potomac Edison Forerunners Club, the Berryville Board of Zoning Appeals (Charter Member), and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was survived by a sister, Nelle Brubaker Geary of Frederick MD; a brother, Garnett Mark "Jimmy" Brubaker of Severna Park, MD; a son, two daughters, five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held on Wednesday, July 23, 1997, at Mount Hebron Cemetery in Winchester. The Reverend Tom Holden officiated.
