Gilkress, was a member of the 12th Louisiana Regiment, Company D.
He was brought to Camp Randall (Madison, WI.)as a P.O.W., in april of 1862. He died of disease, less than a month later, on 5/9/1862.
***Note: Most likely, because of the deterioration of the original markers (that were made of wood), Gilkress' stone misspells his last name as "Gillereas".∼Records state he died at Camp Randall, Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin.
