Mildred Charlene Brazzil Neatherlin of Highlands passed away on Saturday January 23, at St James House in Baytown. She was 78 years old. Born in Coryell County, Texas, she graduated from Flat High School. She was the daughter of Edwin Brazzil and Alice Hamilton Brazzil who preceded her in death. She married Alton Neatherlin in 1949. They moved to Highlands in 1955.

Preceded in death by her parents and her youngest daughter Treena Dee Neatherlin Dickey, she is survived by her husband, son Kenneth Ray Neatherlin Sr., Daughter Jana Lee Essen, grandsons Kenneth Neatherlin Jr., Blaine Dickey and Drew Essen, granddaughter Krista Lee Essen and great granddaughter, Kinsey Neatherlin. Also surviving are her brothers J.D. Brazzil of Canyon, James Brazzil of Highlands, and sisters Bobbie Geiselbrecht of Gatesville, Sarah McCutchen of Waco and Gladys Barr of Gatesville.

Charlene was co-owner and publisher of The Highlands Star newspaper for 37 years. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a member of the Jaceetts, a Rotary Ann, a Sunday school teacher for 20 years, and a member of the Highlands Chamber of Commerce.

Her family will receive friends at a visitation from 6:00p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, at Sterling White Funeral Home in Highlands. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 28, at 2:00p.m. at Sterling-White. A brief graveside service will follow at Sterling-White Cemetery
