Raleigh Casad, Merced Business, Civic Leader Dies
MERCED, Merced Co. – Raleigh Casad, 67, a long time Merced civic leader, died last night, a week after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 PM in the Mission Chapel of Ivers & Alcorn. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
Casad was born in Karbers Ridge, Ill. He lived in Washington State before coming to Merced more than 50 years ago. He worked for the old Merced Falls Gas and Electric Company and later for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, serving as manager of the latter for many years until his retirement in 1950.
Casad was a member of the Yosemite Masonic Lodge, the Merced-Mariposa Shrine Club, the Tehran Temple of the Shrine, the Scottish Rite, Merced Elks Lodge, The Merced Rotary Club, the Merced County Farm Bureau and the Merced-Mariposa Horsemens Association.
He was a past president of the Merced County Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Merced Chapter of the American Red Cross and, until his death, its disaster chairman.
Casad is survived by his widow, Sarah; a brother, Orla Casad of Merced; a sister, Mrs. Mae Paulsen of Merced, and two grandchildren.
