David Benjamin Ballanger was the son of Aquilla Nelson Ballenger (1847-1930) and Lucinda (Dykes) Ballenger who farmed near Queen City, Missouri.

Note: The last name is spelled Ballanger on David's stone and also on his 1st wife's stone. However, on his parents' stone and on his 2nd wife's stone the last name is spelled Ballenger.

David was the youngest of six children. His siblings and their dates (as accurate as we know) are:

Mary Ann Ballenger 1870-
Abraham Nelson Ballenger 1875-1946
Hannah Jane Ballenger 1875-
Amos Millard Ballenger 1877-1967
Isabelle Margaret Ballenger 1879-1975
Alice Alzira Ballenger 1881-1969

On February 29, 1908, Daivd married Hortense Ikerd, daughter of Henry Lowrey Ikerd and Ida May (Miller). Less than 3 years later, Hortense died of blood poisoning at the age of 23. No known children were born to this marriage.

On February 13, 1915, David married a divorcee Rosetta Isabelle "Rosa" (Beerbower) (Baldwin) who had 5 daughters. Rosa's husband, George Wesley Baldwin, had deserted her several years earlier and she had been living with her widowed father whose home was close to the Ballenger family. Only 3 of Rosa's daughters, Sarah, Bernice, and Ruby, were living with Rosa; her other two daughters, Opal and Edith, were being raised by two of her married brothers.

David and Rosa had no known children together.

Rosa died in 1947 and was buried in the Myers Cemetery in Schuyler County. David died 10 years later and was buried beside his first wife Hortence in Queen City Cemetery.

Missouri Death Certificate 46941.
