Ellen Magdeline Timpy, 85, of La Grande died Saturday, Feb. 19, 1994, at the Mountain Vista Care Center. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Daniels Valley Funerals Chapel with Forrest Turner officiating. Committal and interment will follow at the North Powder Cemetery, followed by a potluck for family and friends at the Union Sportsman Club. Mrs. Timpy was born Dec. 4, 1908, in North Powder to Matts (Mathias) and Matilda (Harrison) Simonis. She attended school at Wolf Creek. She married Andrew Timpy April 24, 1926, in la Grande. They moved to Union in 1935 and purchased Del's Place in 1958. Mr. Timpy died Oct. 5, 1975. Mrs. Timpy continued to operate Del's Place until retirement in 1989. She loved country music and her family. She enjoyed people and working with the public. Survivors include her son, Pharis Timpy, Irrigon; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Bud Richardson, Cove; son-in-law, Donald Haefer, Union; grandchildren, Sandra Yielding, Michael Timpy, Charles Timpy, Andrew Timpy, Wilma McDaniel, Gary Haefer, Shelley Boucher, Lori Woosley, Brenda Carman and Kim Chees; 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Ethel and Lee Follett, Elgin; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Enid Timpy, Lewiston, Idaho; sister-in-law, Olena Simonis, North Powder, and other relatives. A daughter, Wilma Haefer; brothers, Ernest, Emmett, Harrison, Lawrence and Anthony Simonis; and sisters, Agnes Haefer and Eunice Smith, died earlier. Those who wish may make contributions in memory of Mrs. Timpy to the Union Ambulance, Union County Home Health or the charity of choice in care of Daniels Valley Funeral Chapel, 1502 Seventh St., La Grande, OR 97850.
