Ida Marie Rieber was born to Henry Rieber, a varnisher, and his wife Alta Mary (Miller) Rieber when they lived at 811 Virginia Street. She had a brother, John, and four sisters, Lillian, Irene, Celia and Sadie.

In 1998, Robert K. Walsh, Ida's youngest son, remembered that she had worked as a cigarmaker, rolling cigars by hand in a small store owned by a man named Herman.

She married Paul R. Walsh June 27, 1904, in Marion County, Ind. Six months later, her daughter Mildred Sarah Walsh was born on Dec. 23, 1904. On Dec. 27, 1909, she gave birth to John Paul Walsh with the family living at 914 Mary Street, next door to Henry and Alta Rieber and Ida's brothers and sisters. Paul Henry Walsh was born Dec. 7, 1913, and Robert Karl Walsh came along Sept. 30, 1924.

By 1920, the Walshes had moved next door, into the former Rieber house at 912 Mary Street. Her father, Henry Rieber, was living with them, but her mother, Alta, and sister, Irene Craddock, boarded with a family at 1828 E. Maryland Street. Irene was working as a cigar roller.

By 1930, Paul and Ida Walsh owned a home at 16 W. Maryland Street valued at $5,000 with all the children still at home. Alta Rieber died in 1940, and Henry in 1949 while living with Paul and Ida at 6 W. Maryland Street, which was part of a triplex at the corner of Maryland and Main streets.

Paul and Ida lived many years at 6 W. Maryland, Mildred at 818 N. Main and after they got married Ida's son Bob and his wife Hazel lived in an apartment upstairs. At some point after her husband died in 1954, Ida moved in with Mildred at 818 N. Main Street, where she lived when she died of congestive heart failure and other heart problems after two weeks at Deaconess Hospital. She is buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.
