following an illness of five months, during which she suffered from a complication of disease, Mrs. Valentine Smith, 71, passed away Thursday afternoon at 3:10 at her home, 739 north Spring street.
Her condition has grown worse in the past few weeks.
Phoebe Eiler was born at Urbana in 1861 to Jacob and Christine Eiler. All of her life was spent in this county.
as a young girl she was united in marriage to Frederick Hipskind, whose death occurred about twenty six years ago. Three sons were born to them.
She was married again February 22, 1929 to Valentine Smith.
She leaves her husband and sons, Clarence Hipskind, of East Moline, Ill., Carl Hipskind of Wichita, Washington and Reuben Hipskind of Benton Harbor, Michigan; four sisters, Mrs. Theodore Hipskind and Mrs. Sarah Young of Wabash, Mrs. Anna Hausman of Tampa, Fla. and Miss Emma Eiler of Indianapolis; two brothers, Albert Eiler of Philadelphia, Pa., and Phillip, of Joliet, Illinois.
Two brothers and one sister have preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith was a faithful member of the St. Matthew's Evangelical church and for many years had taken an active part in organizations of the church. She was a member of the Charity circle and Ladies Aid Society of the church and a member of the East End Embroidery club.
Funeral services will be held at two Sunday afternoon from the St. Matthew's church. The Rev. Schlinkman, pastor of the Urbana St. Peter's church will officiate.
Burial is to be made in Falls cemetery.
