Leah Lydia Bates, of Tahlequah, was born, Saturday, April 30, 1927 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to Walker H. "Don" and Myrtle Lively Cochran and she died, Wednesday, January 27, 2010 in Tahlequah at the age of 82 years, 8 months and 28 days. Ms. Bates had been a resident of Tahlequah for many years. She worked as a secretary and was of Cherokee heritage. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband and a daughter. She is survived by her sons, James Crawford and George Crawford of Oregon; daughters, Sally Atchley of Euless, Texas, Vickie Crawford of New York; brothers, Walter, James 7 George Cochran of Oregon; sisters, Nancy Cochran and Katie Merritt of Oregon; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
