John was counted in the 1860 Raleigh county census, age 14. This would make his birth year about 1846. So I am using that for his birth until I locate something else.

In the summer of 2003 myself, Doris J Aliff, and a second cousin, Brent Walker, grandson of Alice Aliff Walker, went to locate the grave site of John Henry Aliff. After obtaining the correct location of Pemberton and a map to get us there, we were off. Even though not prepared we did ok for the first trip, we located the town and the cemetery, mostly with luck and God's guidance.
Aided with the information of the cemetery's location description form my mother we were sure we had the right cemetery as we were told by the Pastor of the local Church that it was the only one in the Pemberton area that he knew of. The Minister said that once in a while there is a service there, but he did not know who for us to ask about or if anyone would know about the old cemetery.
As we waded through the grass and weeds I decided to get pen and paper out to take down some of the older names and dates just incase that it would be of some help in finding any other family that may be there with stones in place. On some date Brent and I want to take my mother there to see if she can get the fell of where the site might be since she has told the story that she and dad took granddad J.R. there on a few occasions to see his dads grave. She also new that his mother Julie was not buried there. It is apparent to me that on the next trip we will, no must, take weed eater and lawn mower with us so we can get to some of the older stones. Brent will appreciate this since he was the one that jumped when "something" speed out from behind the weeds at his feet to run from him. Little did the varmint know that Brent too moved a little fast to get away form it.
