May Fisher Percy deLaureal, Born Sept. 7, 1914, at Highland Plantation in West Feliciana Parish, she died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at her home, Beauport, in St. Francisville.

Visitation at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, St. Francisville. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Charles Landry. Burial in the church cemetery.

She was the daughter of the late Frank Sims Percy and Naomi Fisher Percy of Greenwood Plantation in West Feliciana Parish. She was raised at Greenwood Plantation, and graduated from Dominican High School in New Orleans and LSU. She taught at St. Joseph's Academy in Baton Rouge and West Feliciana schools until her marriage in 1940 to U.S. Naval Academy graduate Henry Howard deLaureal of Broussard.

She was an eyewitness to the attack of Pearl Harbor. Her husband's navy career spanned the U.S. and Europe with a final assignment at Tulane University in New Orleans. May continued to substitute teach in her children's schools and began a new career as a tour guide in New Orleans. After retirement to St. Francisville, she was a favorite docent at Rosedown, Catalpa, and the Myrtles plantations.

She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, a parish council member, K.C. Ladies, Ladies Auxiliary, Mount Carmel Cemetery Committee, a 75-year member of Chi Omega sorority, the Military Officers Association and West Feliciana Parish Civic Club, being named its Outstanding Citizen of the Year in 1993. She was awarded the Bronze Good Citizen Award by the Baton Rouge chapter of the Society of the Sons of the American Revolution. She was a member of National Society of Colonial Dames and placed on its Roll of Honor in 2003. She spearheaded the writing and publishing of the Colonial Dames book, First Ladies of Louisiana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Henry Howard deLaureal (U.S. Navy, ret.); son, Stephen Philip deLaureal; three brothers and a sister.

She is survived by a son, James Thomas deLaureal of Reno, Nev.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Cleland and Clarence B. Owen of Wheaton, Ill.; grandsons, Howard Wade Owen of Gaithersburg, Md. and Ryan James deLaureal of Reno; granddaughter, Margaret Davis Owen of Wheaton; and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Frank Lathrop, Frank Percy, James Lathrop, Michael Percy, George Woodside, Michael de Laureal, Warren Taylor, Tom deLaureal, Doug deLaureal, Martin deLaureal, Rob Fisher and Michael Fisher.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Carmel Catholic Church Cemetery Fund, Catholic charities or a charity of choice.
