Harold Edward Detour, 91, of Stanton and a long-time Wellfleet resident, died Feb. 21, 2008, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.

Harold was born March 18, 1916, at Bladen to Joseph Louis and Ethel Mae Thompson Detour. He grew up in the Echo District (Wellfleet area) and attended Echo School.

Following school he worked with his father on the farm.

On Aug. 16, 1939, he married Letha B. Kounovsky at Julesburg, Colo. They moved to the home place near Wellfleet where Harold started farming. He worked a short time during the early 1960s at Economy Glass while he continued his farming operation that he ran until his retirement. Because of his declining health, Harold and Letha moved to Stanton in 2006.

Harold was an amateur ham radio operator (KØFRU) since 1961 and enjoyed working with electronics. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge No. 401 in Wellfleet.

Survivors include his wife, Letha of Stanton; two sons, Richard Detour of North Platte and Douglas Detour of Stanton; two sisters, Eloise Look of Pharr, Texas and Eleanor Shill of North Platte; two grandchildren, Christopher Detour and DeLayne Danielowicz; five great-grandchildren; three nephews and three nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter-in-law, Sue Detour; and two brothers-in-law, William Look and Charles Shill.
