George William Boyers, 71, a well known resident of 217 Community St., Harrisonburg, and a retired employee of Metro Pants Co., died at 1:45 Thursday afternoon at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville. Mr. Boyers had been in failing health for several years and had been a patient in the hospital for the past four weeks.
A son of the late William Layton and Bertie Glovier Boyers, he was born on Oct. 20, 1903 in Rockingham County. Mr. Boyers spent the majority of his life in the Harrisonburg community and had been employed in the maintenance Department of Metro Pants Co. for fourteen years prior to his reitrement five years ago.
He was a member of the Baptist church.
He is survived by his wife, the former Miss Leona B. Higgins, who is an employee of the Metro Pants Co.; one son, Richard Lee Boyers of Rt. 2, Harrisonburg and four grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Charles Boyers of Springfield, Ohio and three sisters, Mrs. Hazel Cave and Mrs. Gladys Glenn, both of Springfied, Ohio and Mrs. Kathleen Smith of McSherrystown, Pa and his step-mother, Mrs. J.D. Alderman of Harrisonburg.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Sunday afternoon from the chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with the Rev. W.W. Weaver in charge of the services. Burial will be in Woodbine Cemetery.
His body now rests at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home where the members of the family will receive friends from 7:00 o'clock until 8:00 this (Saturday) evening.
Relatives are asked to meet at his late home, 217 Community St., Harrisonburg, at 1:40 Sunday afternoon for a brief service prior to leaving for the funeral chapel.
