OBITUARY - PHELPS
COLESBURG, Dec. 24 - Wilbur Phelps, son of Alphens and Barbara Phelps was born on May 15, 1857, in Clayton county, Iowa. He was born and raised on the farm which his mother bought from the government.
On March 4, 1889, he was married to Stella Fishel. Fourteen children were born to this union, two sons having died in infancy. Those surviving are: Lincoln of Puyallup, Wash; Levi of Cassville, Wis., Mrs. Mary Cole of LaPorte City; Mrs. Odessa Ahrens of Edgewood; Mrs. Stella Knaspe of Elkport; Martin of Prairie View, Ill.; Merton and Otto of Colesburg; Mrs Opal Lau of Delhi; Mrs. Lucille Meyers of Guttenberg, and Wilbur at home. He is also survived by twenty six grandchildren.
Two years ago Mr. and Mrs. Phelps retired from farming, moving to their home in town.
Mr. Phelps has been a member of the I.O.O.F. at Colesburg for 46 years and a member of the Rebekah's for 31 years. He had been in ill health for the past year and passed away Friday morning. Dec. 20, 1929. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. G.C. Nothdurft at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon and interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
