Evaline A. Phelps (Shepard) was born at Farmington, Illinois, July 16, 1855, was married to Walter A. Shepard in September , 1881, and died at her home in Colesburg October 25th, 1904.
Mrs. Shepard had been a great sufferer for many long weary weeks, and to her death was a sweet relief from intense pain and suffering. Her ailment was thought to be cancer of the stomach. In the cyclone which came our way five years ago, and in which Mrs. Shepard lost her husband and two sons, she herself was seriously injured. Since that time she has been poorly, and it was the opinion of the attending physician that the malady which ended her life developed from in injury received at that time. Her final illness dates from last April, and during the past two months her suffering has been terrible. Through it all she was patient and hopeful of recover, that she might remain with her children.
Three children survive, Lou, aged five years, Ernest, twelve years and Lorenzo, fifteen years of age. The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church on Thursday, in charge of Rev. Tyrell. The services at the cemetery were in charge of the Rebekah Order, of which deceased was a member. Much sympathy is felt for the children thus left without father or mother. Mrs. George Herman is kindly caring for the little girl Lou. The boys are with relatives for the present. It is to be hoped that some kindly disposed people will find it in their hearts to give these boys a home and help them to become useful and honorable men.
