Printed in Daily Herald on 11/7/1917:

"Miss Laura Smyly, of Biloxi, died at the family residence at East Beach and Lee street yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock, death being due to pneumonia from which she had suffered for four days. The funeral will be held this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock by Rev. H. F. Tolle, pastor of the Methodist church, and interment will be in the Biloxi cemetery. Miss Smyly was born in Sumpter county, Alabama, and had been a resident of Biloxi for the past thirty years. She was a daughter of the late Archibald Smyly. She is survived by one sister, Miss Jessie Smyly, of Biloxi, and one brother, Hall Lewis Smyly, of Morgan City, La. Mr. Smyly's daughter arrived in Biloxi for the funeral. Miss Smyly was of a beautiful disposition and was loved by all who knew her and had a large number of friends."
