She was the daughter of Anna Blackwood Howell and Col. Joshua Ladd Howell. Her younger brother was Civil War Union General Joshua Blackwood Howell.
She married Reverend Thomas Leiper Janeway, son of Rev. Jacob Jones Janeway, on October 28, 1828.
They had five children:
1). Jacob T. Janeway (1831-1838). Died in childhood.

3). Martha G. Janeway (November 27, 1833 - ). Married Doctor Charles Hodge on June 2, 1858.
4). Anna A. Janeway (December 3, 1835 - ) married Rev. Nathaniel L. Upham on June 5, 1861.
5). Reverand Joshua H.B. Janeway (1838 - ). Chaplain of the 199th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the Civil War.
