Mrs. Lucy Broyles, who had been a resident of the community for forty years, passed away quietly Sunday morning, nearly 87 years of age. She was the mother of Mrs. J. C. Nichols of Superior, Nebraska, and of J. W. Broyles who lives in the country south of Superior.

Lucy Baker was born at Centerville, (now Greenville) - West Virginia, January 3, 1846. She was aged 86 years, 11 months, and 16 days at the time of her death on December 18, 1932. She was the daughter of John and Lucinda Baker. In early womanhood she united with the Methodist church of which she remained a faithful member.

On November 16, 1865, she was married to James H. Broyles of Union, West Virginia. To this union eleven children were born, the husband and three sons preceding her in death. Those remaining: Fallon of Burns, Kansas, Robert of Ionia, Kansas, Dorsey of Haines, California, and J. W. of Superior; Mrs. Lizzie McDaniel of Jewell City, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Hall of Hill City, Kansas, Mrs. Oma Blanding of Belleville, and Mrs. Eta Nichols of Superior.

Mother Broyles not only reared her own family, but while living in West Virginia, they took a little orphan girl aged eight and reared her to womanhood. With her husband she moved to Severance, Kansas in 1887. Later, in 1892, they came to Webber where they lived until 1926. Since the death of her companion, she made her home with their daughter, Mrs. Nichols, in Superior.

Known in her later years as Grandma Broyles, she was a friend to everybody. She left a beautiful record in her long and useful life. Besides four daughters and four sons, she leaves 36 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, one sister, and a host of other realtives and friends.
