Note, the exact date of his death is unknown, but his name was starred (indicting his death) in the Yale College Triennial Catalogue of 1769.

The son of Samuel & Rebecca (Lay) Gager, he married (1) Elizabeth Whiting on Nov. 1, 1725 in Lebanon, CT., (2) Mehitable Taylor on June 1, 1731 in Columbia, CT., and (3) Mary Allen on March 31, 1737 in Columbia, CT.
He graduated Yale College in 1721 studing theology and was called to the North Society of Lebanon Crank (now Columbia) Conn. in 1724/5. He was ordained at Yale College May 27, 1725. In 1734, he was forced to resign his post at the North Society due to drunkiness. He preached in Eastbury and Glastonbury, and was again called up before Windham Association for drunkenness in May of 1739.
