Samuel Gager was a planter or farmer and was born in New London at the home of his father John Gager. He was raised in Norwich. He is described in Caulkins book, The History of Norwich as a man of good repute and considerable estate and a member of the parish of New Concord. In 1697 the town of Norwich deeded him 12 acres on Connecticut Plains in replacement for land taken from his fathers plot to form the Gager Post Burial Grounds, the cemetery where he is interred. His monumental slab was for many years the largest in this cemetery, however it fell over around 1825. But someone sketched it and that sketch survives. He was buried with his Gager ancesters in the southeast part of the plot.
