George H. Lardner, affectionately known as "Poyke" by his friends and family, passed away in Grass Valley, California on Saturday morning March 1, 2008. He was 84 years of age.
George was born in Auburn on November 24, 1923. He graduated from Placer High School in 1942 and worked at the Marinship Corporation shipyard in Sausalito, California for the duration of World War II. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, a Paul Harris Fellow and Past President of Auburn Rotary and also served as treasurer and president of the Tahoe City Ski Club. After a nearly six decade career in the construction and architectural professions, he retired from his architectural practice and moved from Auburn to Grass Valley with Solveig, his beloved wife of 49 years.
He is survived by his wife, Solveig Lardner; son, Bill Lardner; granddaughter, Kayla Lardner and grandson, William Lardner; stepchildren, Nancy Atkinson and Chris Lardner and Nancy's son, Chris Atkinson; sisters, Jane Haydon, Lorraine Laird (Dean), Clair Vanderbilt, Lynette Weeks, Billee Landry; sister-in- law, Inesa Lardner and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, William and Amonda Lardner; his sister, Phyllis Warwick and brothers, Lynford Lardner, Jim Lardner, Bob Lardner and Jon Lardner.
George was always a devoted husband and loving father and he will be dearly missed especially at George's Place, his summer cabin at Palisades Lake.
A burial service will be held at the Lardner Family plot in the Old Auburn Cemetery on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. All friends and family members are welcome.
