Mrs. Z. A. Walton

Zenah Ann Strait, daughter of Bennet and Mary Catherine Strait, was born March 15, 1851, in Wabash County, Indiana, and died August 28, 1946, at Edgar Nebraska, as the age of 95 years, five months and 13 days.

When a small child, she with her parents moved to Harrison County, Missouri, where she grew to womanhood.

She was married to Merit Walton, October 29, 1874, and to this union four children were born.

In 1878 they moved to their homestead north of Edgar and this community had been her home since.

In 1884 she gave her heart to God and as long as her health permitted she was very active in church work.

Asleep in Jesus! blessed sleep,
From which none ever wakes to weep!
A calm and undisturbed repose,
Unbroken by the last of foes,
Asleep in Jesus! O how sweet
To be for such a slumber meet!
With holy confidence to sing,
That Death hath lost his venom sting.
Asleep in Jesus! peaceful rest,
Whose waking is supremely blest!
No fear, no woe, shall dim that hour
That manifests the Saviour's power

Funeral services were held at the Edgar Methodist Church Saturday, August 31, 1946, at 2:00 p.m., with Rev. S. W. Rasmussen of DeWitt in charge assisted by Rev. S. W. Longacre.

Mrs. E. J. Mort and Ed. Cushing sang "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Some Day" and "Abide With Me." Wilma Merrill was at the piano.

Pallbearers were: F. A. Goesch, W. A. Wildt, Lauren Sanberg, Vernon Hill, Noel Strait and Harold Shipley.

Interment was made in the Ong Cemetery.
