MRS. P. J. LEANDER,
72 DIES AT HOME
OF DAUGHTER HERE
Mrs. Mary E. Leander, 72, wife of Peter J. Leander of Marne, died at 7:30 last evening at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph McCauley, 5 East Twelfth street. She had been ill with pneumonia six weeks ago and was taken ill several days ago with influenza.
Mrs. Leander was born in Oak Hill township, near Brayton, Sept. 14, 1875, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Onken and grew to womanhood there. She was married in Brayton to Mr. Leander March 19, 1897 and they had farmed near Brayton until moving to a farm near Marne several years ago. They had lived in Marne the last three years.
Surviving besides the husband are two daughters, Mrs. McCauley and Mrs. Gerald Sutton of Red Oak; three sons, George Leander of Greenfield, Clarence Leander of Brayton and Harry Leander of Atlantic; three sisters, Mrs. George Hastings and Mrs. Asa R. Brewer of Atlantic and Mrs. George Anderson of Massena; a brother, Harry Onken of Orient; eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Mabel, died at the age of 1 1/2 years and also preceding her in death were two sisters, Mrs. John Kraack and Mrs. Henry Bell and two brothers, William R. and Fred C. Onkem.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the Roland, Peacock & Baxter funeral home, the Rev. H. B. Kishpaugh of the Marne Methodist church officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill cemetery west of Brayton. The remains will be at the funeral home until the service hour.
