Jonathan and his brother David (bur S. Augusta Cemetery) were the only children of David Curtis by his wife Sarah Hurd, daughter of Peter and Sarah (Squires) Hurd. After David's untimely death their mother remarried Michael Hinman as his second wife.

Jonathan and Thankful Hall (daughter of Aaron Hall) were married in 1790 in Washington, Litchfield, CT and went to live in Sandgate, Bennington, Vermont with his uncles Hull and Caleb Curtis. All of their children were born there.

Later after his relatives relocated to Augusta, Oneida, New York, he and his family relocated to Nelson.

Jonathan's second wife was Johanna ((Wilkinson) (Newell) Daniels), and there were no children in Jonathan's second union.

It seems not found at this same cemetery is the grave of son Harvey who drowned at the age of 14 in 1815 along with two cousins, sons of Seth Curtis also buried here.
