Born Jan. 1, 1947 in Rushville, he was the son of Raymond E. and Gretchen (Hatfield) Carlton, both deceased. He married Jeralee Kessler May 16, 1986; she survives.
Mr. Carlton had lived in the Shelbyville area for 23 years. He was employed by Chrysler Corp. for 32 years, retiring in 2001. He was a 1965 graduate of Morristown High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having attained the rank of E-6.
Survivors in addition to his wife include son, Donald E. (LaGina) Carlton of Greensburg; daughters, Nancy (Ivan) Ulmer of St. Paul and Tammy (Ronald) Dickson of Shelbyville; step son, Troy Fisher of St. Paul; step daughters, Tamera (Tom) Bartlett of Flat Rock and Heather Rigby of St. Paul; brothers, Bill of Gwynneville, Gary (Elaine) of Greenfield, Tom (Diana) of Rushville and Raymond of Michigan City; sisters-in-law, Sheila Carlton of Kentucky and Debbie Carlton of Rushville; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, David and Fred.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home in Shelbyville with the Rev. Mark Vice officiating. Burial will be in Arlington East Hill Cemetery and will include a graveside military service. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
