AFTON – John William Falls, 83, of 7308 Rockfish Valley Highway, died at 2:36 p.m. Monday (Aug. 24, 1998) at his residence. He was born Sept. 17, 1914, in Beech Grove, the son of Doskey and Mamie Campbell Falls.

He was a member of the Beech Grove Christian Church and was a retired life-long farmer and livestock dealer.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Falls; brother, R. D. Falls; and sisters, Alice Hailey and Hallie Frost.

Survivors include one son, John Harvey Falls of Afton; a daughter, Marthann Thorn of Annapolis, Md.; stepdaughters, Irene Thompson of Nellysford, Joyce Huffman of Afton, and Dot Armentrout of Afton; brothers, Ray and Hewitt Falls, both of Roseland; sister, Ethel May of Silver Springs, Md.; two granddaughters; one grandson; 10 step-grandchildren; 15 step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Beech Grove Christian Church by the Rev. Whitney Critzer with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Judson Carter, Earl Thompson, Bill Lane, Calvin Truslow, Guy Boyd, Donald Matheny, Norman Rexrode and Ray Patterson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Palmer Putnam, Junior Fitzgerald, H.J. Harris, Mark Brownlee, J.L. Thompson and friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Reynolds Funeral Service of Waynesboro. Memorial donations may be made to either the Rockfish Valley Fire and Rescue Squad, Afton, Va., or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1290 Seminole Trail, Charlottesville, Va. 22901.
