Mrs. Barbara Couton Dies, Buried at Austin
Mrs. Barbara Couton, 79, who died at her home near Loup City Monday, Feb. 6, was buried at Austin cemetery Wednesday afternoon after services conducted by the Rev. James E. Harris in the Presbyterian church in Loup City.
Barbara Treffer was born to John and Maria Treffer Feb. 28, 1870, at Chicago. At the time of her death she was 79 years, 11 months, and nine days of age.
She came to Nebraska with her parents at the age of four and spent the rest of her life in this state. Of this time 53 years were spent at her home near Loup City. She married William Couton Feb. 6, 1896; he preceded her in death March 11, 1939.
Mrs. Couton became a member of the Presbyterian church at Loup City on Jan. 5, 1947.
Mr. and Mrs. Couton had six children: Mary, who died July 19, 1911, Arthur Couton of Indianola, Mrs. Anna Shrove and Mrs. Nora Schierhorn of Lakeland, Fla., William Couton of Loup City, Mrs. Nella Sherrell of St. Edward. She is survived also by a sister, Mrs. Lizzie Heil, of Loup City; a brother, Carl Treffer, of Rockville; and by 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
