Nella C. Sherrill, 91, of Grand Island died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Lakeview Rehab/Nursing Center.
Private family graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Austin Cemetery near Loup City. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mrs. Sherrill was born on July 3, 1908, at Loup City to William and Barbara (Treffer) Couton. She grew up and was educated in Loup City. She attended Kearney State College.
She married Glenn Sherrill on June 28, 1936, at Austin. The couple lived in Arnold. They moved various times with the railroad from Chicago to the Sandhills. They lived most of their lives in Grand Island. She taught school in
Nebraska for 25 years before retiring in 1965 from the Grand Island school system.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Grand Island Woman's Club, Church Women United, Eagles Club, Grand Island Retired Teachers Association and Elk Does. She was a past worthy matron of the Clarks Order of the Eastern Star. She was also a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. She enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge. She also enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and sewing. She had volunteered for Project Nightie, Stuhr Museum and St. Francis Medical Center.
Survivors include one daughter, A. Lu Stahlnecker of Grand Island; one son, Tom Sherrill of Phoenix; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, JoAnn Brown; three sisters and three brothers.
