Mrs. Ella Thornton Garner, 86, of Morton died May 13, 1999 at MS Care Center of Morton. A native of the Polkville Community, Mrs Garner was a longtime resident of the Springfield Community of Morton. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, and was one of the best cooks in the community according to her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Garner. Survivors include a son, W. M. Garner of Morton; four sisters, Ruth Watts of Laurel, Elois Gray of Taylorsville, Mary Boykin of Soso, and Eloise Craven of Moss point; a brother, Eugene Thornton of Hueytown, AL; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held May 15, 1999, at Ott & Lee Chapel with burial in Springfield Cemetery. The Rev. Bob Sanderson, the Rev. James Watts, and the Rev.Frank Lay Officiated. Pallbearers were Scott Myrick, Joe Harold Thornton, Anthony Thornton, James Oscar Thornton, W.J. Garner, Joe Garner, Otis Ray Garner, Lloyd Gray, Harry Wedgeworth, and John Callahan. Ott & Lee Funeral Home of Morton was in charges of arrangements.
