COALING -- Hugh Windford Fikes, age 89, moved to Heaven on November 16, 2002. He passed away at Glen Haven Nursing Home. Service will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Coaling United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Tuscaloosa Memorial Park.
Mr. Fikes was preceded in death by his parents, William Thomas Fikes and Lovie Snider; sisters, Lois (Rev. Tony) Wilson and Flonta Fikes. Also welcoming hin into Heaver are his grandchildren; Brian, Barbara and Jonathon.
Hugh is survived by his beloved wife, Lillian Hargrove Fikes; daughter, Carolyn (Glenn) Collins, sons, William Hope (Yvonne) Fikes and Hugh Richard (Pat) Fikes; grandchildren, Bob (Linda) Fikes, Carla (Butch) Bostick, Jeff (Kathy) Collins, Keith (India) Collins, Tommy (Susan) Fikes, Scott (Lee) Fikes, and 13 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fikes spent his last full day on earth celebrating his 68th wedding anniversary with his wife, Lillian. He was a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather. As a lifelong member of teh Coaling Methodist Church, he served in many leadership positions. He served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Alabama for over 60 years. After his retirement from the Central Foundry, Mr. Fikes enjoyed his work as a full time cattle farmer. He will be remembered for his hard work ethic, integrity, and his dedication to his family and community.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and great-grandsons.
