Kirkpatrick, 85, of Muscatine, formerly of Davenport, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the All Faith Chapel, Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport, with graveside military rites. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Kirkpatrick died Saturday, March 8, 2003, at Eagle Point Nursing Home, Clinton, after an extended illness. He was born Sept. 1, 1917, in South English, a son of Perry Kirkpatrick and Geneva (Martin) Kirkpatrick. He served in the Army during World War II and was a former member of the Moose Club. Mr. Kirkpatrick was a carpenter contractor by trade. He and his brother, Roland, were the owners and operators of Kirkpatrick Brothers. Jay retired in 1980. He also was a Scott County farmer. He married Bernice Meyer June 28, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. His children and grandchildren were a very special part of his life. His hobbies included fishing and gardening. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Quad City Animal Welfare, Milan, Ill. or your favorite charity. Survivors include his wife, Bernice, Muscatine; daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra Kendoll, Davenport, Lina and Don Sawvell, Davenport, Patricia and Stephen Mapley and Marilyn and Jim Swinburn, all of Coal Valley, Ill., Dede Turner, Bettendorf, Susan and Don Speer, Davenport; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Jay and Sandra Kirkpatrick, Muscatine; 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Marjorie Kirkpatrick and Betty Kirkpatrick both of Phoenix and Gloria Dannon, Missouri. He was preceded in death by four sisters, nine brothers; and a son-in-law, Richard Kendoll.
