Grandma Jacoby called by death in 89th year
From Examiner:
Following an illness of a single day Mrs. M. Jacoby better known as Grandma Jacoby died at her home in this city Tuesday evening. The end came suddenly the dear old lady quietly going to sleep, to awake on the other side of the river Jordan.
Grandma Jacoby came to Tillamook county 30 years ago, when all was wilderness, and white men were few. Here she made her home watching the tide of civilization swoop westward driving back the forests and enlarging the fertile fields. In 1894 death robbed her of the husband with whom she fought the battles of the wilderness in many parts of the frontier constantly moving westward as the cities grew. Here she watched three sons and a daughter grow into manhood and womanhood, and here she made herself the loved friend of all. Mrs Jacoby was born in New London, Ohio 89 years ago. She was a frontiers woman until the day of her death. For several years past she has been in poor health, but she managed to be up and around until the last day. Death did not come unexpected and at the bedside were the four children she had brought into the world.
Funeral services were held yesterday by Rev. Becker and interment was made in the I. O. O. F. cemetery, the remains being placed to rest at the side of her father, a veteran of the war of 1812.
